Classes of 6e, 5e, 4e, 3e
(students from 11 to 14 years)

At LFJ, students study subjects such as French, modern and ancient languages (English, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Latin), art, music, drama, physical and sports education, moral and civic education, history, geography, biology, physics, chemistry, technology and mathematics.

Acquiring a common base of skills
At LFJ, students work in small groups. In language lessons, skill groups are set up.


The 6e class allows students to deepen the subjects studied in primary. We begin to discover new subjects (physics, chemistry, art, biology, technology) and the middle school working methods.

5E, 4E

Starting in 5e class, the students begin a new cycle (cycle 4) which will lead him to the 3e class. The schedule is expanded with a second modern language and options such as Bahasa Indonesia and Latin.


The 3e class prepares for entry into high school and the main stages of orientation. During this last year in middle school, the students sit the National Brevet Diploma.

Mastering the language skills
With a volume of 8 hours per week, English represents a third of the curriculum at LFJ.
From the 5e class onwards, students learn two modern foreign languages in parallel.


English is called LVA and is the first modern language taught at LFJ.

Number of English hours per week:

  • 6e: 6 hours including 2 hours of literature + 2 hours of history-geography (optional)
  • 5e: 5 hours including 2 hours of literature + 2 hours of history and geography (optional)
  • 4e: 5 hours including 2 hours of literature + 2 hours of history and geography (optional)
  • 3e: 5 hours including 2 hours of literature + 2 hours of history and geography (optional)


Starting in 5e, students have to choose a second modern language.

At LFJ, students have the choice between Spanish, Mandarin and German (3 hours per week).


Starting in 5e, students also have the possibility of taking a third optional language: Bahasa Indonesia or Latin (1 hour per week).

Learning at LFJ is also developed during cultural outings and excursions throughout the Asia zone.

The National Brevet Diploma

The DNB (National Brevet Diploma) is issued by the French Ministry of National Education. It attests to the knowledge and skills of a student and proves that they have the level required at the end of middle school.

A diploma of 800 points

Obtaining the DNB is based on the points accumulated in the ongoing assessment (400 points) and the 5 exams that the students sit at the end of June (400 points). The diploma is awarded to students who have obtained at least 400 points out of 800.

  • Fairly good mark above 480 points
  • Good mark above 560 points
  • Very good mark above 640 points

The ongoing assessment

The student’s level is evaluated during the last class meeting that holds an end-of-cycle review. It takes into account the student’s skills and knowledge acquired since the 5e class. All the subjects and the projects carried out count (PPE, Parcours Avenir, Parcours Citoyen…). Points are awarded according to the following scale:

  • insufficient proficiency: 10 points
  • fragile proficiency: 25 points
  • satisfactory proficiency: 40 points
  • very good proficiency: 50 points

The written exams

At the end of June, students take a series of 4 written exams: French, mathematics, history-geography / moral and civic education, science (2 disciplines among: physics-chemistry, biology, technology).

The oral exam

The oral examination can relate to one of the projects that the student has carried out during the interdisciplinary practical lessons or a personal project. This oral examination is a presentation that prepares the students for similar exams in High school and at University.
